UNIQUE MILLEFIORI IN THE BASKET PAPERWEIGHT by MIROSLAW TUREK Signed "M. Turek " on the base. This is unique, one of a kind experimental paperweight made by second Polish artist in 2005. He started to experiment with millefiori paperweights inspired by works of Tomasz Gondek and 19th c. Silesian masters from Josephinenhutte, Carlsthal and Hoffnungsthal glassworks. Ignition to both artists works was given by paperweights exhibition in Karkonoskie Museum in Jelenia Gora, 2002 and the book "Glass Paperweights. The Heritage of the 19th Century Riesengebirge and Isergebirge Glassworks". T hen t hey started their experiments during breaks, working in Julia Glassworks in Piechowice (former Fritz Heckert's glassworks in Petersdorf). In the years 2004-2005 Miroslaw Turek has made over 80 lampworked and millefiori paperweights, each one of unique design. Shortly after he discontinued making paperweights and left glassworks changing his professional occupation. All his paperweights were kept hidden to the public for several years, and just couple years ago I discovered his works.
